Regional CSO meeting in Mozambique
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has announced the convening of the Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) for Southern African based stakeholders who include CSOs, government representatives including GEF agencies. From 1st to 3rd August 2012.
The above will be preceded by a CSOs meeting on 31st July 2012 were an approximate number of 25 CSOs representatives will meet to share ideas and be oriented with GEF as a funding mechanism as well as a partner in providing support to the needs and aspirations of environmental protection, preservation and development.
Contents of this important discussion will include a presentation of an overview of the GEF NGO Network followed by a dialogue with GEF Secretariat. There will also be an input from the GEF SGP Coordinator on “Enhancing CSO Participation in GEF Activities” taking into consideration the 39th GEF Council which considered a key paper on enhancing the engagement of Civil society in GEF. This session will update CSOs on the effective engagement and implementation as well as experience of CSO implementation of GEF programmes. This will be followed by a session on “Enhancing the participation of indigenous peoples in GEF Activities” to underscore the call for the development of a GEF Policy on Indigenous peoples.
The last session will look at “Enhancing CSOs participation as partners in Convention(s) implementation. This session will update CSOs on key emerging issues from the CBD Conference of Parties as well as the UNCCD. It will map out the challenges and opportunities to enhance working relations between the Conventions and GEF and the role of Civil society in convention implementation.
