Election of Regional Focal Point for West Asia
The Election Task Force of the GEF NGO Network initiated the election for the position of Regional Focal Point (RFP) for the West Asia Region on 23 July 2012. Following the call for nomination, four (6) nominations were received before the closing date on the17 Aug 2012. Following detailed review, two of the candidate organisations were deemed not to have met the eligibility criteria. The voting process was initiated on 4 October with four candidate organisations. However, subsequently two candidates withdrew their nominations shortly after voting commenced. The voting period was closed on 24th October. According to the report, 65% of the 17 eligible organisations in the region participated in the voting and 70% of the valid votes were for Gulf Research Centre with headquarters in Saudi Arabia.
Gulf Research Centre is therefore declared as the next duly elected regional Focal Point for the West Asia Region for a period of four (4) years from 28th October 2012 to 27th Oct 2016. Please note that the period of office of the RFP may be periodically reviewed and adjusted by the Network.
